Sample Collection in Patients Prescribed Vancomycin or Fidaxomicin

Vancomycin is an antibiotic that contributes as a therapeutic option in diarrhea associated with Clostridium difficile, a bacterium that affects the large intestine (colon). On the other hand, fidaxomicin is an effective antibiotic in the treatment of gastrointestinal conditions such as colitis and diarrhea.

The most common symptoms in patients are:

  • Watery diarrhea three or more times a day greater than 24 hours.

  • Abdominal pain.

  • Dehydration.

  • Fever.

  • Nausea.

  • Weight loss.

Alpha Research Institute studies these drugs in order to improve the quality of life of patients. If you currently take or ingest any of these drugs Vancomycin or Fidaxomicin, participate by donating a biological sample (blood and stool) in our clinical trial. Donors and/or voluntary participants must be at least 18 years of age and be completely free of infectious diseases (HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B and C).

For participating in the study they receive a $50 monetary compensation and free transportation throughout the Houston area.
